A few weeks ago I had the honor of getting away from the base and going to camp for a weekend with Salt and Light. Even though it was only four days, those days were incredibly impactful.
Camp La Montaña is tucked up in the mountains of Costa Rica, my happy place. It is secluded, but so established. It’s honestly EVERY kid’s dream!
If any of you have ever been to camp, you all know the feeling of stepping out of the car onto the camp grounds and immediately feeling at home. Well, I may be in Costa Rica, but that feeling was still present. The Lord has definitely anointed and claimed that soil to bring His name to Costa Rica and to bring rest to His Children. It took my right back to my days of church retreats and summer camps that are part of the reason why I sit in Costa Rica today.
Right from day one we dove in head first, literally. Our first day was full of training on how to work the rock climbing wall, how to manage the stations at the lake, and after all that training we couldn’t help but jump right into the lake fully clothed. We ended this first night with the most incredible worship (I’ll tell you more about that later). The campers showed up the following evening and the rest of our time kind of looked like being on serve team for any camp. We prepared for the campers to come, did dishes, cleaned, helped run games and activities, built relationship with campers and staff, and just went wherever we were needed. We laughed so much, made so many memories, attempted to speak Spanish, made some real life friends (I LOVE THE STAFF), and seriously had the best of times.
Okay, back to that worship I was telling you about, what a taste of heaven it was. One of the staff members and my sweetest camp friends, Paula, led us in a worship night Thursday when we arrived. We all entered into a little office just above the gym not knowing what to expect and we all walked out pumped up on the Holy Spirit.
So, because we are in Costa Rica, believe it or not most people speak Spanish (including the staff…which includes Paula). The first song we sang was in English (which is ironic because it is the one song we knew in Spanish haha), but after that Paula began to sing in Spanish. However, as she sang in Spanish we sang right alongside her in English. It was the same song just a different languages. We spent probably two hours singing, speaking words out, reading Bible verses, praying, and just sitting with the Lord who was so present in that room. There were ten of us up there and it sounded like hundreds of voices, the Lord sent His Angels to sing alongside us.
This right here was a little taste of Heaven. It took me to the throne room with the Father where one day we will all be worshiping Him no matter our native language. We will all be singing the same songs of praise to our Lord and Savior. What an incredible day that will be.
As you can imagine that was the most incredible way to start our time out. I am so thankful for our time away at Camp La Montaña to bond as a group and come alongside some amazing people in their mission field. Paula, Andrey, Stephen, Laura, Vale, Boti, Daniel, George, Sandra and all the other staff seriously impacted my life for the better! I hope to go back and see them again one day, but for now it feels good to be back at the big house with Gap Q, my sweet family!
Thanks for reading and keeping up with my journey!!
