I am so blessed to have my wonderful, inspiring parents. I learned at an early age that they actually knew what they were talking about, and that I could learn so much from them if I would just listen. The other day I was scrolling through Facebook and I ran across one of my mom’s posts:
“I took our pets outside before the rain started and it made me think about our lives. Look at Junior, the newest member of our family. He is so full of energy, ready to go, does what he is told, RUNS, and wants everyone in on the action. He is much like a new Christian… when you first became a Christian NOTHING would stop you from telling others; you were so excited. Then there is Smokey our cat. He is just sitting there looking at the dogs like, “WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING?” He might also may be thinking “Don’t be so loud! Others may hear you, and more dogs in the neighborhood will start barking (because he is VERY skittish). That’s the way we are sometimes during our walk with Jesus. We are skittish, afraid to be BOLD for him. We are afraid if we tell one person, we may be asked to do something that is “out of our comfort zone”. Then there is our sweet Knight. In the end of his life. Just laying around letting others have the fun. He is thinking “I am too old for this, I have done my job.. so I will sleep the day away since I hurt so bad.” Those of us who have been Christians (for what we think is a LONG time), we just sit back and let the others work….I mean, we’ve worked VBS, Mission Trips, MANY youth events, etc., it is time to just be a pew warmer. Let the younger ones have it. But is this REALLY what God wants for us?”
Oh how wise my Momma is! I could expand on this, but I think it’s pretty perfect the way it is.
So, I ask you, where are you in your walk? Are you pumped about what Jesus has done in your life? Do you excitedly tell people about Him and the difference he’s made? Are you too scared to talk to others? Are you afraid of offending someone or attracting attention? Or are you thinking you’ve done enough, and surely you can stop ministering now?
My dear friends, we are called into this life of ministry, and we aren’t given a “retirement” from it until the day we die. There is always an encouraging word to say, helping hand to lend, or deed to do.
You are needed, today and everyday.
