This past Wednesday night we had evangelism night. This is where the whole squad breaks up into groups of 4 or 5 and go out to share God’s love with locals. As my group was walking we heard some loud drum in the background. It sounded like fun so we turned around to head towards them. We innocently walked through smiling & filled with joy. They were so loud we couldn’t even hear each other. When we got to the other side, far enough away we could hear, we circled up and shared how it wasn’t for fun, it was a funeral. We all felt very out of place. We prayed for the man and his family and then continued on to fund other to talk to. A few minutes later our leader, Cal pulled us all aside and said “hypothetically if God asked you to go back and pray for this man to wake up, would you?” a little shocked we all decided to stop and ask the Lord if that’s what he wanted. The second I bowed my head and said “Lord” he responded “yes”. I looked up and everyone else nodded their heads yes. So we circled back around to the drums. Cal asked the women at the door if we could go in. She nodded so we took off our shoes and walked towards the casket. We each got Down on our knees in silence & began to pray in faith. As crazy as it felt the lord continued to have me pray for this man to come alive.

God considers all of humanity to be prisoners of their unbelief, so that he can unlock our hearts and show his tender mercies to all who come to him. Romans 11:32.

I found myself in unbelief, as you would. He reminded me of the times his son Jesus woke people from death. In mark 5:41-42 Jesus prayed for a little girl to wake up from her sleep of death. And instantly she sat up.

I wish I could tell you that at this point the man woke up. That all his family would be praising God. However, the man remained asleep. We all silently stood up and left respectfully. We continued on walking.

I kept praying for this man. The Lord put the words “he will rise“ in my mouth. He said “repeat it”. So I prayed repeatedly “he will rise“ until I heard The Lord respond “yes he will”. This man may not have come back to his earthly life, but if it is the Lords will then this man’s spirit may have risen into heaven.
