It never ceased to amaze me how the Lord takes our expectations and flips them completely around.
Malawi – We have heard many, many stories of people who had less than enjoyable experience here, we were unsure of what to expect nonetheless.
Arriving here at the African Bible College, we were BLOWN AWAY and in shock, we are so very blessed in many many aspects this month; hot running water, (a first for me) beds, a kitchen, a swimming pool…it feels like what I'm used to back home.
This month was hard at first because I almost felt guilty for living here but God has shown me that you don't have to be in a village and necessarily "roughing it" to do ministry, ministry is in everything and it's everywhere. I get to teach swimming lessons, work in the clinic, sort text books and invest in the community around us while also teaching and leading bible studies in a village twice a week. We even get to attend a potluck Friday nights and waffles Sunday nights with the missionary expats which was such a shock, I haven't been around that many people who speak the same language as me or come from where I come from in 5 months. At first my team and I didn't know how to act or what to say and we made fools of ourselves but fear not, we are slowly but surely learning how to act semi socially acceptable.
These two months are actually so great because in a way they are preparing me for home, we go off and do different ministries kinda like we are heading off to our seperate jobs, we get to excercise and have quiet times in the mornings and twice a week we go shopping for our meals we prepare. This time here is allowing me to create healthy habits that realistically can carry on back home with me which is so good and important.
Also, my final deadline for being fully funded is the first of February, one week away! I am beyond blessed and thankful for all the support I have received, it blows my mind whenever I think about it. If you want to help me raise the 1500 CAD I have left, please message or contact me so that I can round up the remainder of what I owe.
Thanks again so much,
Love,
Sydney
