Through it all, through it all, my eyes are on you.
Through it all, through it all, it is well.
Through it all, through it all, my eyes are on you.
And it is well.
It is well.
So let go, my soul, and trust in Him.
The waves and wind still know His name.
So let go, my soul, and trust in Him.
The waves and wind still know His name.
So let go, my soul, and trust in Him.
The waves and wind still know His name.
The waves and wind still know His name.
And it is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul.
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul.
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
And through it all, through it all, my eyes are on you.
Through it all, through it all, it is well.
Through it all, through it all, my eyes are on you.
And it is well with me.
Today during ATL (refer to ______________ to know what that means) we met a woman named Petrona. The Lord led us to her by showing images of fruits to my teammate, Selina, and then bringing us to where she sold fruit on the street. She seemed a bit confused about why we were there, even when we explained that we just wanted to speak with her and ask God what He wanted us to speak/pray over her. She said “What do you want? I have nothing to offer.”
At the beginning of our conversation following that, she said that she could see we trust God and that she also trusts Him.
In the rest of the conversation, she told us repeatedly that she has been living a very poor life, selling vegetables&fruits and eating whatever she doesn’t sell. It can be really easy for missionaries to come in and tell people they talk to that Jesus is the answer and they shouldn’t worry about a thing. Which, in the end, is true. But…doing that can often turn them away from the Lord.
Learning how to be Jesus to everyone we meet has been interesting. Often we want to solve the problem by just giving them money and hoping that does the trick. Sometimes, God really is calling you to help support them financially. Other times it’s best to give them a willing and caring listener. And other times, a scripture or even a word that God wants them to know is what will impact them the most. Even just speaking with them like you would any other person can show them that they are worthy of love, which is something that is easily forgotten when you live a life like they do.
So, anyway, we spoke with Petrona for about an hour and were able to share with her that she is a loved and cared for daughter of the King, and that being able to trust in Him is the best thing she can do. We also blessed her, her big heart, her amazing work ethic, and just her life in general. This conversation is what came to mind when the song at the beginning of the blog came on my playlist. It is well, it is well, but well doesn’t always mean bliss. To be completely honest, it was a bit of an awkward interaction.
It’s easy to think of a kind of “plan of action” for encountering people like this when you’re not actually doing it. But then going into these conversations you quickly realize that everything you thought of in your plan isn’t necessarily going to be beneficial. That’s where listening to the Holy Spirit comes in! ← A really awesome thing that I may write more about in the future.
Sorry that my thoughts are not very well organized on this topic. Just some word vomit for ya today!
