Is the race everything you imagined?
That is a loaded question I think.
What did I even expect coming onto the race?
- I expected to help people
- I was excited to learn more about God
- To travel and learn more about culture and how people act in other parts of the world.
- To learn more about the Bible
- To learn how to live in a community of believers with a Kingdom mindset
- To find out what I want for my future
- To work on myself and know what I want and where I want to be
- I expected it to be hard but not to hard
- to eat weird food
- to make new friends and make connections in other places in the world
What is the race really like?
- fun
- More like home then I thought it would be like, meaning we sometimes have more free time then I thought so we have to fill that with honestly whatever we want to do. (Which is sometimes relaxing and watching movies)
- Some of these “weird foods” are really weird haha and some are debatable
- Even if the food is gross you smile and eat it all while saying “wow this is so good”
- Shoving 50 people in a 15 passenger van…don’t ask and don’t worry(;
- For real tho personal space with transportation isn’t a thing when traveling in a big group or in Guatemala haha $3 seems like a lot after being about to buy stuff for $1
- Living in a community on the race means never being alone. Like never. One bathroom, 5 girls? No problem one person can be on the toilet, 2 people brushing their teeth and one person in the shower? And the other just in there because they feel left out.
- Talking about poop at every meal and well really just all the time because our bodies experience odd things while traveling
- I haven’t washed my clothes in 2 or so weeks (don’t worry I washed my underwear in the sink)
- I am growing in ways I never even imagined
- I have seen God work in ways I never knew was possible
- And I’ve learned what my heart longs for at the end of the day. Jesus.
- He is so good despite all the bad stuff out there and chooses to love us and walk beside us no matter what
So all in all I think the real race by far exceeded my expectations and more and I am so blessed to be here thanks to everyone who partnered with me on this journey! There is also so much more but I didn’t wanna make this to long for you(;
Thanks for reading if you have any questions or just wanna talk message me on Facebook or email me!
God Bless,
Sydney (:
