I am really good at taking photos. I take photos a whole lot, not that they’re always the best photos but they serve the purpose I need. I upload a lot of these to Instagram and Facebook, but I never really take the time to caption them.
For that, I apologize. I guess I leave you hanging a bit on whats happening in the photo and leave you hanging for you to kind of figure it out yourself.
This blog is a few photos of my time here in South Africa. I’ve had a lot of incredible moments, with incredible people. These are just a few of my highlights and moments I will cherish forever.
Again, I’m super sorry none of my photos on social media have captions. We can talk about it in 3 months!!
First and foremost, this is the Love Shack. The 18 of us all lived together for the last 3 months. Occasionally, our 3 squad leaders would pop in and join in on all our fun. On Christmas Eve, we all got ridiculous matching pajamas and went to the beach and had a ridiculous photo shoot. Most of the photos turned out just like this one.
The last 3 months, we have worked with children from start to finish. During this, I learned a lot about patience. This little boy was at the first childrens camp we ran back in December. The photo doesn’t even do justice for how beautiful this little boy was. He was awfully shy, but he offered a whole lot of high fives!
This was one of my favorite nights of the entire race. On my 19th birthday I was so blessed to spend it with these guys. We went to Signal Hill and watched the sunset, and then walked to the other side and looked at all the lights of Cape Town. Each of them has been such a big blessing in my life and have been so beyond kind since day one. It’s been so fun hanging out with them and seeing some cool sights of Cape Town. Thank y’all for making us feel so welcome, I’m going to miss ya so incredibly much. We will waffle soon, don’t worry! #Lekkeerrrr
Lice. Lice. Lice. The amount of lice in the love shack was pretty unreal. Sadly, you can’t see the mass amount that was pulled out of my head and is sitting on Kayla’s finger in this photo. Huge shoutout to Reya for picking lice literally out of everyones head. You’re a real one.
The last 6 months, I’ve lived with these 3. At the beginning of this journey, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out. It was rough. But as time went on, I’ve gotten to know each of them and their hearts and let me tell ya, they’re the best guys I know. They gross me out and weird me out a lot but I wouldn’t have it any other way. This day was Valentine’s Day, before they took us out to dinner. Another one of my favorite Race memories. Jack, Rye and Maddux- I truly love ya with all I got.
Oh wow, where do I even begin with this one? The last 3 months, I have been going to Hillsong Church. I have always loved Hillsong, so being able to finally go to the church instead of watching sermons on Youtube and songs on my phone, was so awesome. But after time, it just became normal. This church has provided me with so much in my short time here. I actually am so inspired by their Powerhouse group and their push and urgency to make the young adults here a generation that just lives for Jesus. This place has truly felt like home. This photo was taken at Summer Fest, a super cool conference/camp type thing for college aged students that we were able to go to filled with worship and incredible testimonies and messages. Thank you to all the friends I’ve made and people I have met, and thank you for pouring into me, I’ll remember it forever.
Our last 2 months in South Africa were spent in a community called Westlake. Here we ran an after school program and assisted in the Primary school. So. Many. Smiling. Faces. And. So. Many. Selfies. I truly enjoyed my time here. I will miss it.
Back in December, I overcame fear. It took a few tries, but I finally got in the big ol’ metal cage to go shark cage diving. I actually got in, saw a shark and decided that was enough and asked for the guy to let me out. He did, but then I was like, “I’m going to regret this.” So, I got back in. Right after I got back in, a giant shark swam right by me. I got back out after that and said, “no more regrets, I’m good on this experience.”
Last but not least, this is my adorable host sister Faith. Faith is 8 years old, and I have yet to decide which one of us is the biggest One Direction fan. She is filled with so much attitude, spunk and sass. Her hugs are constant, and she makes me feel so loved. I’m gonna miss her a whole lot.
While I could continue posting photos that mean a lot to me and show my time in Cape Town, I don’t wanna overwhelm ya. Check out all the rest of my photos on my social media platforms and maybe some day soon, there will be captions with them. Can’t make any promises though!
