Scars…. everyone has them. It’s a known fact. I have always said that we all have physical scars and internal scars, meaning at some point in our lives we have had physical pain, but also we have had heart pains. Whether you caused the scar, such as falling or scrapping your knee or someone else caused it, maybe someone threw something at you and caused you to have stitches, either way you have a scar that will never go away and is a visual representation of what happened. I believe that we have scars on our hearts also, the same way we have a physical mark that is a reminder of what happened on our bodies we will always have a mark on our hearts. Internal scars, like physical scars can be caused by someone else or from our own decisions, examples of that would be someone breaking up with you when you thought you were going to marry them, or relationships ruined based on you doing whatever you wanted in the moment and not caring about the damage that was to come. And like physical scars our scars on our hearts will hurt some times periodically and of course hurt while they are healing, but I used to believe that once they are healed they become a reminder of what I went through and how strong I was and all the things I overcame, however I had a wrong view on that. Although we do have internal scars they not so much represent what WE have overcame or what WE have been through, but the GRACE God gives us and what GOD has brought us through. My pastor Kevin Miller preached about the “Power of Love” a few weeks ago and left us with the statement of “one grace fits all” meaning that God’s grace will cover all of us no matter what the sin and shame of our internal scars maybe the grace of God covers you, your past, and especially your future if you believe that He died on a cross and rose again so that you may live with Him in Heaven forever.
Romans 8:1 “Therefore, no condemnation now exists for those in Christ Jesus”
That is exciting news!!! That verse simply states that if you believe in Jesus that come your judgment day, that everyone will have, God will look at you and not see your scars from your past mistakes or the hurts from what others have done to you, but His Holy and Perfect Son. We can trust in Jesus that even though we have earthly struggles that one day we will be seen through our Makers eyes and we are perfect to Him.
So I leave you with this, yes we all have scars and reminders of what this earthly life has brought us, but I challenge you that when you think of your scars to think of God’s grace and how He brought you through and made you whole again. You see my focus was all about the memory of what I went through, when I should have been praising God for getting me through the situation and use my scars to share His Grace.
