Camp Joy
Camp Joy IS a restoration house for former gang members and those that had drug addictions.
Everyone here goes through a program called Cease Fire in order to come clean before coming to camp Joy. Here we host 6 week programs where they continue to learn how to stay clean and more importantly who the Lord is. At camp Joy they accept all people no matter what age, gender, history, or skin color. Camp Joy’s main purpose is to love the way Jesus does, without discrimination and to pour into the people who live here so that they will come to know the Lord and be able to share with others what He has done for them.
Going into South Africa we got new teams. I now live wth 5 girls and 2 boys. (Not including the 40 other people at camp Joy).
YES WE LIVE WITH THEM!
We live and do everyday life with former gang members and addicts. You would be amazed if you knew how nice and loving they are. We currently have a group who is about to graduate, along with a group who have just started their journey.
We as a team have the privilege of helping them with working projects (in order to build relationship), teaching bible studies everyday, eating meals together, having classes about drugs, and going on out reaches where we love on the community and they get the chance to share their stories.

I’m not going to lie at first I was nervous when I heard I would be living with gangsters, but they are some of the sweetest, funniest people I’ve met. They are just men and women who got caught up in the wrong things and are ready for a change and starting to love the Lord.

Camp Joy is such a special place and their name fits them, from the African drum beating worship music to the laughs had while working, this camp is full of the Lord and full of Joy.
