Recently I read in the devotional, Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, “The main problem with an easy life is that it masks your need for Me (God).” Isn’t that so true?! If everyone had an easy life, there would be no reason to rely on God. Maybe that’s the reason that so many people turn to things like sex, drugs, and alcohol. They may feel as if God has given them a bad life, so they turn their back on religion. They might refuse to believe that if there was a God, he would let bad things happen. But that’s not it. Hard things happen to us in order to get us to TURN to God, not run from Him. If it was all flowers and sunsets and glitter there wouldn’t be a reason for us to believe in a power higher than ourselves. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want an easy life, I want a hard one. I want a life that makes me rely on the Lord. In the worst times, He shows up the most. Situations that feel beyond our ability to handle are there to make us feel inadequate. It is when we feel inadequate that we reach for something larger than ourselves. The Lord will fight for each and every one of us if only we remember that He is there.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. – Psalm 91:1
