While being at Cape Coast University I have learned so much. The people here thirst for knowledge and love talking about Jesus. When on campus we are talking to some students
who are so caught on the law that they don’t see past it. They don’t see why a man would come and die for them, or believe that someone would. They have a lot of questions and are seeking a lot of answers.
When talking to two of the students here I have personally realized how big of a deal it is to turn your life to Christ, in a new way. To know what it means to truly say that you are following Christ. These two students weigh the words that are said, they seek the truth on the matter. They aren’t just going to believe what is said and change, because if they choose to follow Christ, to change their path, they have to go back to their home and tell their family.
This may not seem like a big deal to go home and tell your family you gave your life to Christ, at least to me it didn’t. But to see it from their view, they said they would possibly get stoned, they would get kicked out of their family, they could possibly be killed. Would I step out like that for what I believe? “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 5:10) They will suffer for the name of Christ.
This is not a light matter, and never should be. When we give God our word I don’t think we always realize what we are doing. But this is something they have to take in full from the beginning, because of the cost of following Christ instead of their traditions. I didn’t find out the costs until after I gave my life to Christ. They are finding more about what Jesus did for them, but this does not mean they are changing their mind right away. They even said they want to seek it out and find truth for themselves. They are very wise. This is something that I honor them for. They are not going to change because someone told them to, or because other people are doing it. They grew up different and one of them is in line to be a chief. This is not a simple question or transition, this is something that will dramatically change their lives.
I believe this is how it is supposed to be anyways, a dramatic change of life, the old dying and the new rising up. Talking with them and Romans 6,7, & 8 have brought me closer to this realization. These people understand the full grasp of what he did for us and sometimes I feel that we tend to overlook and take for granite what truly happened. They are waiting and counting the costs because once they change they will not go back. They can’t go back.
That is real.
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.”
– Psalm 139:23-24
