some of you may be aware that today is
the very first sunday of advent.

So what does that even mean?
The truth is…

“we are all hungry. for a community that will last. for love that doesn’t fizzle. for something–anything–of permanence. to know ourselves. to know the truth. to understand how it all makes sense. to see the face of God.

in the midst of all this, Jesus came.

jesus is coming.

jesus is here.”

So what does this Truth mean, then?

Well, if you're like me, you're constantly striving, constantly hoping for a better day, or simply that you will "make it through" to the end of work to lie your head on a pillow and finally have a moment to breathe. you're working to make yourself better, stronger, faster, braver, wiser, more beautiful/handsome, more likeable, more articulate, or even a better servant of God.

And i suppose, in essence, none of these things are necessarily bad things; it's good to be growing, right? well, no. apart from the One who has come all the way down, they are futile–these aspirations will get us nowhere. if i'm being honest, there are days when i'd like to think i don't actually need Him.

but the truth is this: He had to come. He chose to come.

He chose to step into our messy days and our futile desires and aspirations to make all things new. to fix our broken parts. to heal and restore and set us free. but this Savior…was a BABY?

I often stop for a moment and look at my niece, the precious little goochie goo that she is, and think,

"my Savior was once that? are we sure?"

chubby cheeks and boogers and all? a head of messy, thick black hair?
{just look at that face…}

Okay, but children are so helpless and fragile. they need us. they depend on us. and yet the God of the UNIVERSE was one? yes, He grew into a child and scraped His knees. He had fevers and mosquito bites, and He cried. His earthly parents took great care of Him from the day He was born in that lowly manger…

Yet the roles were inevitably reversed.
in all actuality, it is us that need Him.

He had to come all the way down to save us, and in the 33 years He inhabited this earth, one of His last teachings to His disciples was this:

"GO, and MAKE DISCIPLES of ALL NATIONS,
baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit."

{Matthew 28:19}

And so as this calling on my life draws nearer and nearer {it's 6 weeks away, to be exact}, i'm reminded that i'm utterly helpless without Him. my days are filled with menial, trivial things, unless i choose to seek Him first thing in the morning when i rise. it is by His Grace that i'm even able to go on The World Race at all. it is because i was saved by a human God, once a boy, once a baby, now an Eternal King…that i am able to help finish His works here on this earth by going and making disciples.

You see, there are so many people in the world who don't know the story of Jesus. they haven't heard about this Someone who came all the way down for them, either because they live in a region of the world where Christianity is not talked about, or their government tries to control what reaches their ears, or simply because no one has COME to tell them

but Jesus came. and He's still here.

And that is precisely what we celebrate in this advent season. it's in the same way, though not as their Savior, but rather bearing the GOOD NEWS of their Savior, that i too must GO to the Nations and speak of these Truths.

if you would be so willing to help me GO, i'd be eternally grateful. here is the breakdown of goals:

  • $3,500 needed by October 2nd in order to go to Training Camp
  • $6,500 needed by December 18th in order to launch for the World Race
  • $11,000 needed by April 1 {end of 3rd month on the field}
  • $15,500 – total due by July 1, {end of 6 months on the field}

I am still in need of $1,209 to reach my second goal of $6,500.

I believe that's totally possible! and i know that with your help, I'll exceed that goal and even meet my 3rd goal of $11,000 before I launch on January 6th. simply click the "Support Me Financially" link on the left side of this page to donate online, or mail your checks, made out to "Adventures in Missions" with "Suzy Hachey WR" written in the memo line to:

The World Race is far more than an "adventure" or the "trip of a lifetime". it is because of this Advent, the arrival of Jesus and His great Truths, that the World Race even exists. think of all the people you can reach with your financial support and prayer for my trip, not just during this season, but eternally.

P.S.-do your ears a favor and listen to this beautiful song as you reflect on Advent's Truths for your life.
