So after India and Nepal coming to Eastern Europe was a
little bit of a culture shock for me. In just two months going shopping in a
supermarket like one back home was a shock. Coming to Romania we all knew it
was going to feel a little bit like home. It was that and so much more. The
first week in Romania as a squad we stayed in Brasov. If you ever find yourself
visiting Romania you must take a quick trip to Brasov. It’s a really fun and
cute city to visit, amazing bakery and coffee shops everywhere. Just realize when you come you might want to
prepare yourself for some weight gain because the food is amazing and the pastries
are on a whole another level. As a squad
we had debrief with our coaches Seth and Karen Barnes. I love when they come
and visit us they always bring a fresh word and encouragement for all the
teams. Not only do we spend time with them but also we get to spend together as
a squad and just have fun and love on each other.
Then we are off to our ministry site for the month. This
month we were in the city of Pitesi. When we first got there we had two guys
pick us up. Vali and Maurios. They were basically our tour guides and
translators. Our contact Cristi was actually in the states for a couple of more
days so we just hung out, explored the city. Cristi Golas, the pastor of Living
Hope Church, and the church family welcomed us with open arms. Many of the
church members had us over two their house and made many wonderful amazing
meals for us. The community in this church was just awesome to see. It was more
like one big family and they made us a part of their amazing family. Once
Cristi came home we started the ball rolling with our ministry for the month.
Cristi and Living Hope Church have worked a lot in the community especially
with the children. Every Saturday they pour their hearts in the children at
their Saturday program. The church rents outs 4 rooms at the local school so
the kids come and they have worship, Bibles stories, crafts and then just fun
and games for the kids. Along with that the women of the church get together
with the parents of these children and just minister to them during the kids
the program. So we got to help with that every Saturday. Also they wanted to
redecorate each room so that would be our main project for the month and of
course English classes. So we were very excited to take on all these projects.
So we came up with the idea of painting a Bible stories in each room and then
one room we would decorate for the parents. We came up with Noah’s Ark and
Jonah and the Whale. My amazing and talented teammate Kristen drew out the
pictures. She drew them on the walls and we painted them. So during the days we
painted and also taught English twice a day. We were very busy and tired but it
was so worth it. It took us up to the day we had to leave to finish the rooms
but I’m still amazed at we accomplished. I’m proud of my team. We rock! J So during the month we
made some amazing relationships not only with the church members but also with
the children. The day we left was very emotional not only for us but also for
the kids. Each month is getting harder to leave and this month was no
exception. I actually wished I could have stayed there longer. I know one day I
will be back to Pitesi and visit my new family!!!
So for now it’s on to Moldova! Excited to see everything God
is going to do. Thank you again for all your prayers and support! Love you all!!!
Team SOR 11 rocked it out!
