As I face the computer to update everyone, I’m overwhelmed with everything that has happened. So much to say I’m unable to decide what I want to share first. The past 2 weeks have been so eventful.
But what comes to mind first is todays blessing.
This past week we have been living in Quito – Ecuador, at the Inca Link organization. We are blessed with an awesome house to live in, the 19 of us together. Our hosts Fabi and Mabe, cook breakfast for us, prepare lunch to take to ministry and an awesome dinner family style.
I’ve been in love with our ministry, Camp Hope. To which I’ll explain more in the future. However, my blessing today was when I got home, my plan for the night was to stay in and rest.
For the past week I’ve been teaching Fabi Portuguese. It has been so great to see his joy in learning something new. Most nights, I’ll come to the kitchen and talk/teach Portuguese while he finishes what he is doing. He learns so fast, and today he decided to learn something new and use me as his ginny pig.
Little did I know that while we were at ministry he had spent the afternoon researching recipes for Feijoada (one of my favorite dishes from Brazil). So after prayer, as we head in to get our plates of food, I see black beans and tell my friend that I really love black beans and I miss Feijoada.
Imagine my surprise when I see that it’s actually Feijoada. It felt like heaven on Earth.
When I stop to think about Fabi, the words thoughtful, caring, loving, joyful, crazy and servant-hearted all come to mind. At the same time he’s cooking me a special Brazilian meal, he goes through the work of making a pot with beans and mostly pork to mix with the one of just beans. Because he knows Erika used to be a vegetarian, and sometimes has a hard time with a lot of meat. So many things he chooses to do beyond anything expected, simply because he loves serving and bringing smiles.
I’ll never forget the first day I met him. His wife had been recovering from a bad cold this week so it was just him. He made us laugh so much, but he said: “if you take it you eat it; if you use it, you clean it; if you clean it, you put it away.”
As we ate, we loved the food so much. I thought I had eaten it all, and went to take my plate into the kitchen. All of a sudden he grabbed my plate and started scraping, collects FOUR GRAINS OF RICE and spoon fed me. That’s when I realized what he actually meant by eating all of it.
So excited to see what God brings through FABI the next couple weeks.
