Wow I can’t believe that we only have 1 1/2 weeks left here in Guatemala. It’s crazy how fast the time has gone by, it seams just like the other week that we got here, yet it seams like a long time as well. The days crawl by slowly, and some times I wonder if they will ever end, but at the end of the week I look back and wonder how time could go by so fast.
Almost every day we go Ayapan and play with the kids. I love seeing the big smiles on all the kids faces when we drive up, and when we get out of the van they all come running up and give you hugs, and if they know your name they will be yelling it as they run to you. Some of the kids are always shy and you always have to go them and slowly get them to come play or just sit with you. Most of the time there are soccer games going on, more than one game, and some of the girls with long hair on my team let the little girls braid their hair. Yesterday we brought breakfast with us when we went to Ayapan. It consisted of beans, rice, bread and some kind of soda. We had all the kids sit down and then some of us made the plates of food and poured the drinks while others handed the plates and drinks out to the kids, after all the kids had eaten some of the boys came back for more, it makes me sad to see how hungry these kids are all the time. Last week after we played with the kids for a few hours we gave all the kids some clothes. Some kids got a shirt or sweater while others got pants. I wish we could give each child a hole new outfit that is clean, and I want to give them shoes, not all of them have shoes, and the shoes they do have are either to big, to small, or falling apart. Each day at the end of our time with the kids at Ayapan we all make a circle and we sing a few fun songs with movements and pray with the kids. When we first started going to Ayapan they where in school and they would do skits or plays for us. And some days we would teach them English, this proved a little difficult sense I know barely any Spanish. I had to have a cheat sheet so I could teach them words in Spanish, and they would laugh when I tried to ask them questions in Spanish. I love when they point to body parts, clothing or colors and tell you them in English. After you tell them that they said the body part, clothing, or color correctly they would look so happy with their big smiles and bright eyes. Its funny how attached to these kids I have become over the past three months. Its going to be really hard to say goodbye here in the next week, I’m going to miss all these kids so much.
