I am now in my 4th day in Malaysia and finally
getting a chance to write to all of you. You might be wondering how things
finished up in the Philippines so I will take this blog to give a report there.
God is awesome and faithful! If you read my previous blog I
introduced you to Nica. She is a 12-year-old blind girl who I found living
alone. She can’t walk on her own and had very little help even though her
family, who were a bit scattered, lived near by. My team & I got some
people involved who could help. I prayed and asked God to either restore her
family or give her a better home with others. The Social Worker found temporary
housing for her to live as they looked for a more permanent home for Nica. They
brought her to the doctor and helped get her medicine. It turned out that her
bad looking skin was due to a serious fungal infection. That was getting way
better within the first couple days.
In order for all this to happen the mother needed to agree,
as well as get a signature from the father. They both said yes and so Nica was
headed to a new life. Then, God did one better. Nica really wanted to live with
her younger brother & sister, she wanted her own family back. So, God gave
the mother courage to quit her job (which was the main reason she did not take
care of Nica, she worked & lived in someone’s home). The Social Worker
agreed to help her get on her feet with food and some rent money to start off
with. The mom will also be held accountable to the DSWD (local government the Social
Worker is from). Now, Nica is so happy, living with her mom, brother, &
sister. The mom is taking good care of all of her children again and will look
for a way to make an income to support her family. The missionary organization
that helped me make this happen gave Alma, Nica’s mom, some oil and ideas to
work from home. The oil could be used to make & sell banana cubes, which are fried bananas on a stick, yummy!
When I left Nica was so happy, as was her brother, Jerry 10,
and sister, Maka 5. They were staying with Minda but by now they should be in there own small home. They may
still be squatters but the Lord restore Nica’s family, her skin is healing, she
is no longer alone, and I believe God has plans to still give her sight one
day. In the meantime the people that helped, the Social Worker &
Missionary’s, are trying to get Nica into a school for the blind and as she
gets stronger and builds up her legs to walk on her own she will get to go to a
camp the missionary’s run!
Please continue to pray for Nica & her family. Pray that
God will provide their needs, give Nica strength and healing, for her to get
into school this year, that God will bless them and for protection.
