A 7-year-old grabs my hand and drags me up playground equipment that I am too big for. At the top, she pushes me onto a curving slide and climbs on my lap. She squeals all the way even though, because of the curves, she almost fell out of my lap and off the slide (we stuck to the straight one after that)!
Two 3- to 4-year-old boys crawl up into Paige’s lap to look at the pictures on her phone and then over into mine to repeat the process. The same boys who yesterday would not sit still and loved to wrestle amazed us by quietly sitting in our laps.
During movie time, a 5-year-old girl runs over to her 16-year-old brother, wraps her arms around him in a hug, kisses his cheek, whispers in his ear and happily skips away. The 16-year-old smiles adoringly after her and after a heartbeat, turns to me and says, “She’s so cute.”
A 3-year-old boy comes up to each of us individually, kisses our hand and touches it to his forehead. Then, he skips back to his mom and waves good-bye.
We have been in Turkey less than a week and what has stood out to me the most so far are the “little” moments… Those memories you make without intending to that will make me smile and warm my heart for years to come.
These moments don’t just happen here and they haven’t just happened this month. They happen all the time, I just forget to pay attention to them. However, as this season of my life comes to a close, I know I will notice them more. And I as prepare to return home to you, I know that I will reflect on the last months to find these moments to share with you.
Won’t you join me this month (and on) in looking at life’s “little” moments?
Until next time!
