I have learned a lot this year.
I have learned about loving people you don’t know no matter what situation you meet them in.
I have learned that I will never fully understand the vastness of God’s love…and I got the tattoo so that I’ll never forget it.
I have learned that henna dyes your fingernails permanently orange.
I have learned that the villages in Cambodia are beautiful and full of joy…if you can see past the poverty.
I have learned that you can find home even half a world away from the one you’ve always known.
I have learned to say hello, thank you and how to count in multiple languages (I have not learned to keep them straight, though).
I have learned that kids from the townships in South Africa are not that different from the kids in the projects in the States, they all want to feel safe and loved.
And this month, I have learned that I am old!
Now not in an age kind of way, but in a technological kind if way. I have spent a good portion of this month saying things like
“Wait… What apps do I need for pictures?… And what do those do?”
“How do I load a video on Facebook?”
“I know I have to embed a code somewhere… Where do I find the code and where do I put it?”
“Ok… One more question… How do I…”(this one was almost always a lie.)
You see, I have learned that if you don’t keep up with the newest trends and technology, you get old and outdated… FAST! And playing catch up is full of questions and learning.
But because of the ministry we are involved with this month, I have learned at least what I need to know to do my “job” better. With the help of my team, I am now able to edit photos, frame them, and add phrases or hashtags to them. I know what a hashtag does. I know how to make videos, load them onto the web, link them to a social media page and embed them in a blog.
I will not pretend that I know how to do everything. In fact, I have no doubt that before the end of the day, I will ask yet another “How do I…” question. But I am learning.
What are you learning this month? What are you putting off learning because you feel “too old”? Why don’t you start learning that today?
Until next time!
P.S. You can check out me applying what I’m learning on the following Facebook pages:
P.P.S. I forget who all I stole these photos from, but thank you to all of you!! And I’m sorry I can’t put your names!!
