It has been on my heart to share the incredible testimonies of some of the people we have encountered on the Race. Here is one story that is close to my heart.
Most Americans in their sixties are thinking about retirement and settling down. However, this couple decided it was time to move across the world to become parents to children who were not cared for.
We had the priveledge to work with this missionary couple here on the Race. From Florida originally, the husband pastored a church and the wife taught Sunday school classes to first grade. God was not through with them, He had another plan for them to take them miles away from their life.
Separately they both went to India on a mission trip both around the age of 60. She felt a strong pull in her heart to share about Jesus to the Hindu people of India. In the city they serve, logistically it is the city that has been ministered to the least. They didn’t have a translated bible until 1800. She looked around her and saw so many people destined for an eternity apart from Jesus. She couldn’t wait to tell her husband that she felt led to go back to India full-term. He also felt the same calling and couldn’t wait to tell his wife. After about a year and a half back in Florida they returned to India to do full-time ministry at the ages of 60-65.
In India, they are ministering to people in the slums. They are sharing stories of the bible to children in the area as she does ‘social work’ in the area. They have a home where after school children can go to to be cleaned, given hygiene items, good food, a place to hear bible stories, and a place to be tutored. She is a mom to so many kids in the community. Also, she helps adults who have no jobs by offering them jobs or selling the hand-made items they’ve created. She is a mom to so many.
Also, he is working with the Christians who are here by teaching them the stories of the bible and how to share them with others. Converting people to Christianity is illegal. Christians in this city can be imprisoned harshly for their faith. Christians here, who are not Indian, will be deported from the country if caught converting people. Despite all of these factors, they continue to share their heart and love for Christ to the people here. They are living a life that is truly satisfying, making a difference, and a life that will effect generations to come.
As they say, “If you can burn it, it’s probably not worth living for.”
