I am currently reading the book Love Does by Bob Goff. It is a hilariously funny book which contains stories about Bob’s life and how God has been there through it all. One of the latest stories that I read about was when Bob’s children wrote to world leaders asking to meet with each one so they could interview them. His thought was “why not?” When I read this I was thinking, how does this guy who is an average Joe have the guts to encourage his kids to write to kings, presidents and rulers? Don’t you have to be someone of authority to even think of doing something like that? Honestly, I was fearful just reading the story. In the end of the story his children were able to meet with 29 world leaders in each of their countries and one even came back and slept over at his house in America! Wow, the Goff family has guts!
After reading this story the question I couldn’t stop asking myself was, why did I feel so nervous about Bob’s kids asking to meet world leaders? It was something that was rooted deeper in me. I knew that I would NEVER write a letter to a world leader because I am just a common person and hold no special privilege that would allow me to even shake hands with a world leader. I felt that asking without the set privileges was disrespectful. Where in the world did I come up with this idea? I was subconsciously separating myself and most of the world who are “unworthy” from those who are leaders and “worthy.” What a load of lies! God chose Moses, a common man, to build an ark and protect the future of the entire world. God uses common people to do great things each day. Simply because they are not put on pedestals doesn’t denote their greatness. My walk with God on the Race has allowed me to see the world through His eyes. He shows me how He loves us the same and doesn’t know us by the power or authority that we hold. Whether you are the one in charge or the one following, God sees you as His beloved. Thank you Bob Goff and the 29 world rulers for bringing to the light what was hiding in the shadows of my heart. As children of the most awesome God, we ARE worthy and each of us is capable of doing great things. Dare to dream big my friends 🙂
