My name is Summer and I currently live in Austin, TX. I grew up mostly in Lafayette, LA, but have also lived in Bakersfield, CA and Houston, TX. I currently work as a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) and consult with schools, daycares, and families on behavior intervention plans for children with autism. It is a challenging, but extremely rewarding to work with this population and their families and see significant improvement in their quality of life.
My hobbies include traveling, painting, listening to podcasts, and trying new restaurants. If I’m not doing one of these, I’m most likely cuddling with my cat Lilly. I love all animals and can say that my dream is to hang out with sloths all day. I have recently transformed my love of animals in to a side business as a dog sitter.
I attend Riverbend Church in Austin and I’m proud to serve our young adult group, AveNEW, as the missions and outreach chair. Each month, I organize and execute an outing for Mobile Loaves and Fishes with a group of volunteers, where we drive a truck around and hand out food to those who can use some help. I am also active in Riverbend’s Women’s Bible Study on Wednesday nights.
I am very excited to get to travel to so many new countries and try local cuisine while on the World Race. Growing up, I spoke French and English with my family, so I am also excited to pick up a new language in each country. While in each country, my goal is to order a meal in the native language. I’m also an over-packer when traveling, so I know that it will be difficult to live out of a backpack, but I am excited to take on this challenge that I’ve been called to!
