I know it’s been a minute since my last blog, but I’m back and here to tell y’all about our ministry in El Salvador!

This month we have a couple different things we do for ministry. Our main one is teaching English in the community. Teaching again, I know right? Here in El Salvador, most of the public schools are not safe for kids, and private schools are expensive.  The English taught in both types of schools is rudimentary basics, and not much is usable.  So our host here who owns and pastors a church, opens it up 5 nights a week to people in the community who want to learn more English.  She doesn’t charge them anything, and even offers a meal afterwards.  We teach anywhere from basic foods and objects with 5-6 years, to conversations and sentence construction with young and older adults.  Through this ministry, God has showed me that teaching is most definitely NOT my calling, but He can use all types of people in all types of ways.  After class we help serve dinner to the students, sometimes help cook it too, and then sit and watch God break down the language barrier as we form relationships with them.

Another part of our ministry here is preaching. There are services in our hosts church 4-5 nights a week, not including Sunday morning service. During 3 of those nights, one of our team members gets to preach a message to the church congregation.  Not once in my 22 years did I ever think I would be writing out my own message and preaching it to a church in the middle of El Salvador, but God does some pretty amazing things. We have a translator with us to get the word into Spanish, and it’s so cool to watch the people of the church react to and agree with things God has given us. Aside from teaching and preaching, we do different events at churches to reach the community. Things like piñatas, graduations, little VBS’, piñatas, end of year parties, church gatherings, church gatherings with piñatas, the works. God is moving in El Salvador and what our host is doing, and we get to be a part of it.

Our time here is flying by, which means my final fundraising deadline is coming up fast.  I have to be fully funded with all $18,200 by January 31st in order to stay on the mission field and finish the Race. I need $6,481 to reach that goal. I wouldn’t be on this trip if it wasn’t for all the support I have already received. If you’re considering donating, here’s three reasons to help:

1. I stay on the field and continue to reach people around the world in God’s name!

2. It’d be an amazing Christmas present!

3. One more last minute tax write off before the new year!

Another way to help support me is through prayer, your continued prayers for me and my team as we do ministry here in El Salvador are so appreciated. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me already both financially and prayerfully on this journey, I couldn’t do it without all of you!

Much love, Sum
