Welcome to the Sisterhood of the Traveling Skirt! This week,
the guys from our team (Aaron and Joel) went to Kenya with the other guys from our
squad to do Man-istry with the Masai warriors. Apparently, they’ll be attending
a wedding and an initiation ceremony while out there. I’m sort of wondering if
we will recognize them when we meet up in Nairobi.
Anyway, that left the five girls of Team Clay to do ministry in Mkata – a
Tanzanian village six hours away from the YWAM base where we are staying.
This week, we really appreciated being sisters. We got to
spend time in prayer, doing Bible study, not censoring our speech about female
issues, laughing, preparing food together, and crying together. It was a good
week and God really met us as a group. In that same spirit, we had the
opportunity to minister to women at the church by dancing with them, praying
with them, and visiting them at their homes. At the end of this week of
ministry, we named ourselves the Sisterhood of the Traveling Skirt because some
of us (especially me) have had to adapt to wearing skirts, even when running. I
have a reversible skirt (both sides of which are either covered with mango or
dirt) that I try to exchange when doing ministry or running and I have
threatened to mail the skirt to the other team members once we arrive back
home. Who knows? Maybe there will be a movie created about our experience!
