The Lord began speaking prayer to me, as it would become my focus to deepen and grow the roots of my prayer this month. To give you some perspective, prayer has looked very different in Nepal and India.
In Nepal, I heard the passion and cries to The Lord more often than not. In India, I experienced “drive thru” prayer. We were guided from house to house with limited time, typically 30-60 seconds, to pray for requests. Teams would walk through villages to pray for those The Lord placed in our paths. Oftentimes the requests were the same: financial provision, fertility, jobs, and healing. We were viewed as celebrities, and our prayers were thought to be “more holy.”
As you can see, I experienced opposite ends of the spectrum in prayer during the first two months of the race.
Thailand: Month 3 of an 11 month journey across 4 continents. This month has already brought about a growth that I never saw coming after a hard month in India. Our contacts are very reliant on The Lord to provide in all aspects of their life. They have requested that we utilize this month to rest in prayer, and to be specific and detailed in our requests. Their knowledge, wisdom, and life experience provide “food for thought” every day.
This month I have been given:
-The word PRAYER
-Pastor TJ and Joy (They have remarkable visions and hear so clearly from The Lord)
–No Atheists In Foxholes: Prayers and Reflections from the Front by Chaplain Patrick McLaughlin (Commonly referred to as Pastor Pat)
-Psalms during quiet time
-The opportunity to lead a bible study through the book of Proverbs
-Prayer warriors across the globe
In Psalms, David is constantly crying out to The Lord. David is diligent in being specific and detailed in his cries, he gives me hope that I can take every aspect of my day to God, and He should be the one to hear my successes and struggles before anyone else.
My intentionality of prayer has been transformed. I’ve been inspired by Pastor Pat to write out prayers, and like David, they are becoming more detailed and specific.
Below is my prayer, inspired by Positive Prayer, written by Pastor Pat.
What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. -Hugh Mulligan
My work is important today!
I will do something to further the kingdom!
I will intentionally share the love of The Father as I teach English in a Buddhist school!
I will pray for those I am fortunate enough to meet each day!
I will serve those who need a hand, a prayer and a smile!
I will extend my spiritual gifts when The Lord intervenes and deems the appropriate time!
I will remember those who have generously partnered with me on this journey! (May your treasure await you in Heaven.)
I will make a positive difference in the world today!
Allow me to be faithful in nourishing myself each day with knowledge and wisdom from your living word.
Father, exude your light from me every day.
Lord, grant these requests.
Amen!
Please pray that God would continue to transform my prayer life, and use me daily to further His kingdom.
P: Pray
U: Until
S: Something
H: Happens
NOTE: If you have any requests, I will gladly add them to my daily prayers. We are all in this world together and should constantly build each other up to advance the kingdom.
