Alright, I just sent out some of my letters today, so hopefully some of
you reading this are friends or family who saw the link for my blog in the
letter.   If you read the whole letter, great, you have a pretty good idea about
what this trip is all about. If you are like me, you may have just skimmed the
letter, attempting to get the main points (thanks, college). If so, you are in luck, here are the highlights. If you randomly stumbled upon this blog, and have no idea who I am, well, maybe it was for a reason. Either way, here’s what my mission is all about:

What is the World Race?

The World Race is an 11 month mission trip to 11 countries
with one month spent in each country. It is organized by Adventures in Missions
(AIM), a ministry based out of Gainesville,
GA.

Who is going on the World
Race?

I will be a part of a squad of around 50 people, and my
squad
will be broken up into teams of 7-8 people. The squad travels together
from country to country each month, but during the month the teams break up and
go to different parts of the country in order to do their ministry.

When does the World Race
start?

My squad leaves July 1st, 2011 and returns to the United States
on May 30th, 2012. There are also other squads leaving before me and
after me as well who are going to be doing their own routes while I am gone.

Where am I going on the World
Race?

The tentative schedule of countries is as follows:
Peru
Bolivia
Ecuador
Two countries in Eastern Europe
South Africa
Mozambique
Swaziland
Thailand
Cambodia
Vietnam

How can you support me?

First, I am going to need all the prayers and encouragement
that I can get. Being away from everyone is going to be tough, and its going to
be very helpful to me to know that my friends and family are all praying for me
back home.

Second, you can support me by making a donation! The $15,500
that I need to raise is a bit daunting, and its one of those things that I know
I can’t do alone. I have faith that I will be able to raise the support, and
any donation of any amount from you would be a huge blessing! Please send in
the card that came with the letter, or click on the Support Me tab on the left
side of this blog.

Why in the world did I decide
to give up a year of my life, my comforts, and my freedoms in order to travel
to third world countries, sleep in a tent every night, risk disease, and be
forced to put my faith to the test on a daily basis?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your
own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths
straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Well, this is my path. It seems crazy, unsafe, uncomfortable,  overwhelming, and I certainly
don’t understand it. But I guess I don’t need to. I’ve done the submitting part, and  the promise there is that now the rest is in God’s hands!

Cheers,
Steven
