Right now I’m supposed to be catching up on anthropology homework, but when a good idea hits, people that still have some kind of ADHD still in their system need to act in the moment! For those of you about to go on the race I wanted to hand out some literature ( I did this last year, but I have new literature this year!). Honestly these are books which I wish I head read before going on my Race. They’re not Christian self-help books, becareful those can get addictive on the race, and sometimes the best thing to read is simply just your bible.
The first book is one I have read for my anthropology course, Foreign to Familiar. This book is simply about differences in culture and will not only help you understand the culture you in better, but your teammates even more so. There were so many times where I took offence simply because I communicated differently. This book helps break down those barriers.Find it here! (p.s. the book is super short, has large print, and is a super easy read!)
The next is a book on Hermenuetics, how to properly interpret/exegesis of the Bible. It’s called Getting the Message. Taking scripture out of context can lead to some pretty wacky things that the Christian faith has seen. This book shows you how to properly understand what the Holy Spirit through original inspired authors is trying to communicate. You can find that book here!
While your here, if you are one of my subscribers/supporters (like my segway? lol) I would like to tell you about what has been going on for the last year and a half and what is up and coming. In my last blog I was seeking prayer for the upcoming school year because I haven’t been in school for the past 4 years or so. Well since then I’ve made honor roll twice and am on my way to the internship of a lifetime. So thank you for all the prayers! My upcoming internship is called Beyond Malibu and is a branch of the Young Life organization. Through this program I will be taking high school age kids mountaineering a week at a time in British Columbia! The goal with this is simply a deeper relationship with God through adventure. I’ve never done anything like this before, so there is plenty of excitement/nervousness. The program is 2 summers long and the second summer is when you start your internship. Mostly want you guys to know about this so I can start asking for prayers of safety now lol. We will be getting into extremely high altitudes, crossing over crevasses, and probably dealing with weather changes here and their so if you could please pray for safety, and that God would grant me a toughness to thrive in the challenges given that would be awesome! Stay tuned for more on this and thanks for reading!
