I sat at my desk staring at the computer screen until the lines seemed to blur together and all I could see was the “Submit Application” button.

Should we do this?

Could we do this?

Work is finally picking up and life seems to fit into a perfect little box. We just bought our first home last year. We are active and happy in a thriving church. Family members are getting married, having babies and celebrating adoptions. How could Katie and I just pick up and leave everything for a whole year?

Strangely enough, it would have been easy to shrug off the hurricane in Katie and I’s soul.

You know, that feeling when the Holy Spirit tells you to do something and you decide to go back to bed instead. That punch in the gut that tells you that you should apologize but all that comes out of your mouth is accusation of why that person shouldn’t have been so annoying on that particular day.

We have been praying for God to give us our “next steps” ever since we got married but we didn’t think our next step would be to go entirely around the world. Somehow God seems to always take the little crumbs we offer Him and turn it into enough to feed a crowd. We give him a pinhole of our time and he somehow blasts the lightshow of the century into our hearts.

This is why we chose the trip that we did.

Why 11 countries in 11 months?

Doesn’t that spread you thin? Can you really be effective in a location after being there for only one month?

I would answer that set of questions with another set of questions.

How long did it take Jesus to heal the blind, raise the dead and preach the Kingdom of God before he moved to the next town?

How many people did it take to free millions of slaves from Egypt? How long did it take for God to display his power?

How long did it take Israel to penetrate the towering fortress of Jericho without using a single weapon?

How big was the shepherd boy that God used to bring down a menacing army?

It seems apparent to me that this mission is not so much about a quantity of time but an opportunity for God to display his power. If we are willing to give God our few pieces of bread and fishes then we trust that He will do the miraculous.

The Lord has put this mission in our heart for many reasons but the overwhelming reason that we are embarking on this trip is very simply because God said to go.

If God can tell a grumpy disobedient servant like Jonah to go and turn one of the most wicked cities in the world to God then how much more can he use two willing servants calling upon His name and power?

We know that God is calling us to this mission and we want you to come along with us. We know that many people reading this would love to do something similar but life’s restrictions have made themselves all too obvious. Not everyone can pick up and leave the country for a year and that is why we want you to be there with us through this blog. Please partner with us through your prayers and finances and invest yourself into this trip as a part of your own.

If you are reading this then you have probably already invested heavily into either Katie or I and I want to say that this is probably just the beginning of what God is calling us too. Please pray about the amount of involvement that God is calling you too. I can promise you this…

Where God’s leading is, that is where His power is….

God didn’t interact with the powerful storms from the shores or walk on the puddles in the parking lot. He calmed the storms and walked on the water once everyone got in the boat and followed the Messiah. So jump in and get ready because this is going to be one crazy ride!
