Counterfeit gods and the Pursuit of Happiness

 

Philippians 3:8-9 is a huge part of the reason I am going on this trip .   Are you willing to count everything as loss and count it all as rubbish in order that you might gain Christ? I know I wrestle with this a lot because I want the newest Toys and the latest trends and we cant count out Pride  and Power as Paul talks directly about….. this is hard truth that we all need to deal with! Tim Keller has a book out called counterfeit gods ! Take a guess what he is probably talking about… Nothing in this world will ever bring us satisfaction , except for JESUS CHRIST..  Car, House, Money, flat screen tv, bank account.. read in Tim kellers book about people who have ended their life when they lost the things I just mentioned.. Its an eye opener..

 

Phil 3:8-9

 

8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of  knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith

 

Philippians 3:19

 19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and  they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things

 

 

what is the gods  of our belly today ( and these are just a few) … that stand in the way Jesus and his love for us?

 

 

 

 

I am willing to say , I strive to have all these things as well ( I have to run back to the cross daily to check my motives for the things I want )  I want it all, but if get down to the depth of it…. It is my heart and its sinful condition that wants all these materialistic things. ..  I want God to change my heart so I dont want these things, I want him to change my heart to where all I want is HIM….

 

This is where we need to be at in life  to have fulfillment and a life worth living..

 

 

ALL WE NEED IS JESUS …. ………………
