Since I have been accepted to be a World Racer I have seen God constantly put the books of Psalms and 2 Chronicles in front of me. It has come up so much in my daily devotionals, church, small group, church camp, and all of my social media.
Today I was reading my daily devotions, a lesson about integrity. Integrity is defined as, “adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.” by Dictionary.com. I was reminded that this was a characteristic constantly brought up in every single one of my Criminal Justice classes.
Professors reminded us all of the time that you can go through all of the physical and mental training to be police officer, they can teach you how to write reports, conduct an investigation, or how to shoot a gun, but they cannot change your character. During your hiring process they weed out people by giving them a written exam, put them through physical testing, and psychological exams. Once you prove that you are fit to be a competent police officer you have your interview. This is the departments chance to dive in and figure out what you are truly made of. Will you be a team player? Will you make reckless decisions in the field? Do you truly have what it takes to be a police officer and wear a badge?
‘Protect and Serve’ a motto, a promise, an oath taken by so many in the law enforcement community, a goal. Living a life of integrity is difficult for anyone but that has become something that I want to work towards during the race. I want to be more aware of my shortcomings, to be more honest with myself and others about them, and to be strong enough to put in the effort towards fixing them.
Psalms 15:1-2
“Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts.”
My prayer this week is that God uses The World Race to teach me what it truly means to live a life of integrity, to allow me to create a strong spiritual foundation for my future career and family, and to use my servants heart to reach those in need while I am in the field.
What will you do when nobody is watching?
