Hello out there!!

I’m not going to lie, sometimes I go through a writing slump when I feel so limited by language and can’t seem to get words on the page. I wrote the majority of this blog post while I was traveling in Scandinavia and it’s a topic I didn’t even know was on my heart until the words were already typed. Happy to be out of the slump. Maybe some of you will relate, maybe none of you will. Regardless, here’s what’s been on my heart.

I think a lot of people fear wasting time on the wrong things. Understandable. The straight and narrow path is quicker, more efficient, & gets you to where you want to be. I can understand this, but I don’t personally hold this fear myself.

Life has a funny way of stealing all of our time. I’m not mad about it though. It’s done in such an alluring way. A fruitful way, I think. & even when we’re led astray, God concocts this big intricate plan for us to find our way back. I love the phrase “you live & you learn” because you can’t do one without the other. Even when the night swallows the day & the whole world seems to come crashing down, something new is on the horizon. A clean slate every day. Cleansed of baggage. Cleansed from sins. Every moment is just that—momentary. & our lives are one big, brilliant, meaningful, fleeting phenomenon that we fail to notice we’re experiencing half of the time. Seasons change, our interests evolve, people come & go, but I still remain me, you still remain you, & God still remains God. Many hallelujahs to that.

Perhaps this is why we have nothing to fear. Everything that has & ever will happen to us is actually happening for us, for one reason or another. God doesn’t need a step-by-step plan that we’ve put together for him to lead us toward a meaningful life. Let’s forget about plans & time & expectations & remember that the densest, richest parts of life stem from the underrated, in-between moments that we don’t expect.

I don’t think God calls us to plan, I think he calls us to love. He wants us to fall in love. With people, places, moments. Everything. I think he smiles when he sees us to talking to strangers & dancing in fields & swimming out into the ocean as far as we can. Moments like these don’t serve expectations and plans, they do far more. They make us realize our hearts can really be full. We can fall in love with one another’s laughs & giddy smiles & witty remarks & realize that these things are only making us fall deeper into the Lord. We can marvel at the sunrise & the waves breaking & know who’s behind it. He wants us to enjoy every ounce of life, & at the end of it all recognize him in everything that we’ve loved. He is present in everything.

Basically what I’m saying is that I’m the least detail-oriented person on the planet, but I somehow feel like God advocates for the “go with the flow” attitude anyways.

Let’s just be

& let life be

& let’s see how our mighty, creative, limitless Creator weaves the two together.
