CGA started off with a bang this past week. All the new apprentices went for a hike for 3 days in the beautiful Georgia/South Carolina wilderness. During this time we were able to spend time reflecting on our past season and also praying into this new one. God spoke in many ways, but one that resounded was dependence.
This is something I haven’t put much thought into. I know I depend on God for many things: fundraising support, good health, you know the major things. What I started to see on the hike is that my dependence on God goes WAY beyond these significant parts of my life. It includes all aspects of our lives, big or small. Decisions we make all the time are coated with dependence, or lack there of. This I started to see was due to how much I trust God.
I believe that trust in God is the fuel that drives our dependence. When we trust fully in God to provide, we allow Him to take the reigns. If we lack trust (like I do sometimes) we can try to take control and do things ourselves. While this can work for a while, we eventually get to a point where the gas just runs out of the tank. On the flip side, if we trust God to provide for us and follow His command, we get to a place we all want to be…
That place is freedom.
In a nation that is founded on independence, we all need to reevaluate what we actually want. Do we want independence, doing things our own way, but not gaining real freedom? Or do we trust God, step into dependence, and gain what we actually want: Freedom. God offers freedom through trust and dependence in Him.
I am taking steps to follow in that daily. In trusting Him, He asks me to give up things, to trust more fully in His provision. This season will be full of moments where I lean on God for all my needs. I believe fully that through the Church, God provides for His workers. We lean on Him and He gives us what we need.
How are you depending on God in this season of life? Are you putting your full trust in Him, or are you holding on to some things He wants to to release? I guarantee that if you give up what He asks, He will give you more than you can imagine.
Trust in Him, depend on His provision, and you will find freedom.
