I have been in Africa for over six weeks at the point when I was set to leave the race. Yep I was going home but I was coming back, my brother was getting married and I wasn’t going to miss it.

After 30 plus hours of planes buses and cars I made it home. The shock of being in the US still hasn’t hit me and I don’t think it will I didn’t have time to think about being home. I only spent around 16 hours at the house. But after being on the race for five months now the idea of home has come into perspective. Jesus said that “Foxes have dens birds have nest but the son of Man has no place to lay His head.” I understand no more than ever before what he was saying here. At the same time as having no Home Jesus had a home wherever He was welcomed, a place where he would be safe for his stay.

We as a squad have been doing street evangelism this month. There was one time when me and my team, and two other squad mates were praying for a girl named Lu. That’s not her real name because I don’t know how to spell it.

She has been mute from two years old and she is now a teen. When we were praying over her she would shake and whisper something that none of us could make out, but she was trying when we paused she would give us this look with her head to the side. She had been somewhat sporadic with her movements up to this point. Then she stopped everything she was doing and stared strait into my eyes with her face only a foot from my own. It was a look I will not forget.

Her eyes were searching, almost like they were asking a question, And I didn’t speak the language.

West Africa is called dark Africa by some missionaries. It has a spiritual warfare unlike any I have ever seen. And I have not seen the worst of it. There are kids that where jewelry to protect them from evil spirts, witch doctors and other religions. All battling for throne of these people’s hearts.

Still Gods light shines through the darkness. In our first month, we saw three hundred people come to Christ.

I have not been back to see Lu yet. But I know God has healing for her and I know that it will happen in his time.

 Stephen.
