As our time on the field begins to wind down, I’ve started asking myself if I’ve done everyone at home justice in sharing my year well. I’ve opened my heart as best I know how to share personal struggles and triumphs, as well as the labor and fruits of our different ministries. I could simply leave you with the perfectly posed adventure photos and big grins of cute kiddos, but where’s the fun in that?!

So I’ve decided to remove the filters and perfect shots and welcome you into our everyday lives on the Race.

Let’s start from the beginning.
It’s not easy leaving home for a year.

P.S. We we’re still in Atlanta.

Approximately 30 days have been spent traveling.
So we’re getting pretty good at it!

Sometimes your pillow pet and blanket even make it into the visa photo!

And sometimes you get super weird colon cleanse presentations on your buses. Casual.

We’ve learned to sleep anywhere and everywhere.

And do life with minimal resources.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Like washing your unmentionables in a ziplock baggie and taking your new Russian friend up on his offer to use his washing machine.

(This wasn’t the first, or last, time I found myself with a backwards shirt. Yikes.)

Monsoons have become a normal everyday thing.
We’re conveniently followed monsoon season around the world. #dontforgetaraincoat

And so have parasites and tummy troubles.
Currently dreaming of safe tap water and clean fruits and veggies.

We’ve become professionals at getting rid of lice.

And we take our jobs very seriously.

Even when we get assigned to do an organization’s yearly accounting.

Seriously though, we were NOT qualified for that.

It takes a lot to get the perfect photo.

And if you leave your phone unattended, you end up with gems like these.

The world is weird, y’all.
But I wouldn’t want it any other way.

See ya soon, America!
