Last month I blogged about the world race and why it’s selfish of me to go.  Leaving is no new theme to my life, I love new beginnings and starting over.

My mom and I share a love of coffee.  We even have different coffees that with the opening of each fresh bag signifies the starting of new seasons.   I’m going to miss sharing our first cups of seasonal coffees together while on the race…Barney's White Christmas is a tradition that  brings tough conversations, tears, laughter, and one of us being late to work.

This week as I shared coffee with friends of mine in Nashville, I was given a glimpse of what race life will be.  Just a few people with broken hearts asking tough questions, giving honest testimony, challenging one another in love, and sharing hope for a better world.  It was beautiful…encouraging and it happened without agenda.  Right there in Fido.

I guess, I’ve always seen my life like coffee seasons.

“Oh! I’ll learn more about the Bible….”
“I’ll experience community…”
“I’m sure I’ll figure that out…”

these sentences have been finished by:

“when I go to college and join a young adults group”
“when I get married and have a husband to do that with me”
“when I have toddlers and have other moms who know more than me”
“when…[insert life season here]”

Waitng for the next season to bring change, waiting for someday to get here.  Recently, I've been waiting for my race to begin.

But friends.  We’re all on the race…

Yes.  I have been given an incredible gift of a specific season that will bring discipleship, community, encouragement, love, growth, challenges, and so much more.  I do not take that for granted, but I have also been given an incredible race of life.  Right here, right now… these five months hold just as much potential for these things as my months on the world race.  The lessons just look different.

I’m writing this for me, but I’m also writing to you.

To the middle schooler who is trying to find their place
To the college student waiting to start real life
To the newlyweds, the moms with grade school kids, the empty-nesters, the singles, whoever you are and wherever you are…

This is your race.  This is where you’re called today…

My prayer this morning is that we would be acutely aware of the race of the day.  That we won’t miss this season waiting for the next.  I pray for courage and conversation that inspires in each of us the next steps towards love.
And that you're each enjoying a cup of coffee with someone you love today.
