From the time I said yes to the world race I have hated the F-word. Fundraising. It is uncomfortable, it’s pushy, and it’s really rude to ask your friends for money. But Tim Keller reminded me this weekend that I shouldn’t rob others of the blessing of blessing me… and I think God agrees.
Like I’ve said before, I love lists. And I love running. When I trained to run my marathon in 2010, I didn’t just wake up and train for a marathon. I trained for a really great 10k. Then I trained for a half-marathon, and then another, then I trained to do a marathon.
On Friday, I was praying about fundraising. ((To God it probably sounded more like I was complaining… )) I was struggling with writing support letters. I felt defeated by $15,500, when I was reminded of what a friend used to tell me about marathons, “It’s just a mile 26.2 times.”
I know that this ministry is going to be supported with manna. Just what I need, when I need it. A word, a prayer, a sponsorship… all given faithfully, little by little.
That’s how the idea of funding my race country by country came about. Each country cost $1,409.10. Still a large number, but not nearly as intimidating as the previous.
For however long it takes, each morning I will begin my day praying for the Country I’m raising support for. Currently praying for:: UGANDA
UGANDA :: Please join me in praying for this country. While our exact ministry site is still unknown, for most of the later half of the 20th century, Uganda was under military rule, first under Idi Amin. Much of northern Uganda was also troubled by the Lord's Resistance Army, which heavily recruited child soldiers. If ministry takes us to the north, we will be partnering with ministries that are bringing still-needed healing and reconciliation. Pray for bravery and for my words to be words of Christ that bring hope and restoration.
