Despite what you may think about me from the majority of my blog posts…I’m actually a pretty funny person.  It’s not all tears, hurts, journaling, and strong coffee here at the Hartford House… we also find time to jump on trampolines, throw snowballs, celebrate upcoming wedding vows, and remind each other how loved we are.

I thought I’d take just a minute and share what’s been happening outside of my heart since being accepted to the World Race.

A few –ing verbs that are my life as of the past three months…

TOURING:: Christmas tour with Michael was fantastic, we finished out the year in Dallas and I was spoiled
rotten at the Ritz Carlton. I am preparing to leave on the Veggie Tales Live tour next week, which is a new adventure in itself!  I am so excited about this tour, for the challenges it will present and all that I will learn while on it, and for the opportunity to work with World Vision and serve with a new ministry.
I’m also excited to wear this shirt..
.

CLIMBING::  A friend of mine re-introduced me to my love of rocks! I fell in love with the challenge of climbing seventeen years ago at Camp Wesley Woods… aka the highlight of my summer every year first grade-sophomore year of college.  As per usual, life got busy and “hey do you like to rock climb?” worked its way out of my vocabulary.  As fate would have it though… Nashville has a climbing gym and I have a friend and roommates who like to climb.
It is a great workout, but mostly has reminded me to take time and invest in things ((and people)) that make you happy, challenge you to grow, and scare you.

LEARNING:: The thing about saying you’re going to go back to school… most of the time you can find an excuse not to.  “I don’t want to pay to get my transcript.” “I don’t know where I would go/what I would study.” “It’s so expensive”  “It’s the middle of the semester” seriously I’ve used them all!
Well imagine my surprise when Groupon had an offer for TESOL Certification 150% OFF ((okay it wasn’t discounted that steep…but it felt like it!)).  My interest in TESOL…or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages…  peaked this year moving into the Hartford House with three amazing women, two of which have their master’s degrees with this concentration.
ANYWAY when I saw the Groupon it was a no brainer… I’m going to need a skill to get visas to several of the countries on the World Race this certification will be incredibly useful!  Even after the race, the certification is internationally recognized, so I will be able to serve either locally here in Nashville or abroad.  Funny thing about buying things on Groupon… it didn’t automatically certify me to teach anything.  Instead, I made the decision to go back to school ((I’m now enrolled in 150 hours of certification courses)) without allowing my fears or excuses get in the way.  It has been one of the most exciting and satisfying sale purchases I’ve ever made… and that’s saying a lot!

P.S. For the record, I take back every mean thing I’ve ever said about leggings…these are prime study wear. Bonus:: they hug and love you when no one else will.
