trending now: missionary mistakes.
recently my team and i have been poking fun at the things we do that might be considered a missionary mistake.
my teammate elle has a fabulous blog dedicated to this same topic.
so here is some of the details from our “missionary mistake” from last night.
our contact has two pets. one a scroungy dog and the other a calico cat. we are somewhat indifferent about both pets. bobby, the dog likes to bark at us and midge the cat, well no one really likes cats. so midge gets told a lot “no gatto” which is spanish for cat.
disclaimer: regardless of our feelings towards the pets we certainly do not wish ill will on either of these house pets.
last night, we went into the kitchen to get some water, where midge the cat sleeps. after filling up on some needed water, we may have left the door open. no one really knows.
so we went on with our night and settled on into bed. we were all drifting off peacefully into sleepy town, when there was a splash.
in the courtyard of our contacts house is the typical el salvadorian set up: a big troth of water in between two counter tops.
so we hear a splash. thinking nothing of it until we were all stirred completely awake by the most horrific sounds. midge the cat had gotten herself out of the kitchen. took a nice stroll around the courtyard and must have gotten thirsty. because she ended up falling off the counter tops flanking the troth of water, right into the basin. this is when we heard her. fighting for her life. she made sure to let the whole house know that she was in distress. by the time that i realized that the horrific sounds were coming from a drowning cat, nelson a friend of our contacts, was already in process of retrieving the drenched scardy cat.
thankfully the cat survived.
once the event was over and we had a good laugh about the situation that just had occurred, we then realized that we have in fact might have been to blame for the cats almost untimely death.
once again bringing me back to our trending topic: missionary mistakes.
