Back to the hut life.
There are a lot of things about Cambodia that reminds me of
Africa.
Despite the similarities Cambodia is not Africa and swings
to its own 3rd world beat.
This month my team and I are working in a village outside of
Kampot, Cambodia, alongside Vuthy and his ministry Light of Hope.
A couple of years ago Vuthy became a Christian while he was
driving tutu’s in Phnom Penh for the ministry Ywam. There the Lord inspired him with a kingdom
dream. A dream that was bigger than
himself and one that could only be fulfilled by surrendering completely to the
Lord, saying yes to Him fully. So Vuthy
followed the Lord back to his home town, to begin Life of Hope Kampot. He set up camp at his parent’s house. Eventually building an extra building to dual
as a school and church. At the beginning
Vuthy was teaching multiple classes at once.
Now he is blessed by World Race teams and Ywam teams that help keep the
place moving. O and he is only 27 years
old and has only been a Christian for 3 years. And he is filled with vision and a
heart for the Lord that is inspiring and contagious.
I love it here. Since being here we have taught English and
done hut to hut ministry. I have
rediscovered a love of teaching. I
always knew that I had a love of teaching but it has been a real blessing to
get in touch with this once dormant passion.
Hut to hut is not
nearly as intimidating as it once was in Africa. It is much more laid back and
fun. I truly enjoy getting up in the mornings and talking to the people around
the village about Jesus. And then running back to the house to start the
morning English class. The days here are structured yet everyday brings a new
surprise and event.
A daily routine here includes hut to hut, teaching English
from 11:30-12:30, lunch, teaching English from 2:00-4:30, break and then
teaching English 5:30-6:30.
The only downfall about being here in this remote village is
the bugs and the milky bath water. The water looks as if the soap has already
gotten to it before you have even started bathing. It is by no means clear. But we get by with our milky water bucket
showers. The bugs are however a different story. Those take much longer getting
used to. I have not seen this many weird
bugs in a long time. Cambodia out bugs
Africa as far as consistent creepy crawling creatures.
Besides the bugs, this month has been fabulous. I love the
opportunity to work along someone in the midst of their kingdom dream. To
partner with what the Lord is doing and to help out with English class. It has
been a dream and a whirlwind of sorts, I cannot believe how soon this month
will be over and then on to the next great Asian adventure.
But for now and my team I are excited and blessed to be
here. To know that we are in the palm of our Father’s hands doing His work.
Loving and serving Him and His people. It is a beautiful place to be.
