Over 150 smiling girls sit crammed onto benches under our big white tent on the beach of Keta, Ghana. Acceptance and belonging are our themes. “This world and people in this world will give you many names, but your Father in heaven is the only one who gets to choose your real name.”
Our agenda is a mixture of sessions on identity, testimonies, Q&A opportunities, and crafts. I sift through the anonymous question cards and pray that the Lord will speak through me.
“Why do people hate me and call me names?”
“Why don’t people understand me?”
“Why does God love us as His children?”
“How can I see God?”
Our week spent publicizing the event at nearby school assemblies is paying off. Handfuls of girls continue to trickle in. Auntie Angie (our host mom, founder of Daddy’s Girls) opens the floor for girls to share a song and the tent begins to ring with the sound of Sinach’s song “I Know Who I Am”.
“I’m walking in power.
I’m walking miracles.
I live a life of favor,
‘cause I know who I am.”
We don’t always know when truth is taking root, when prayers are being activated and hearts are coming alive. However, in this moment, I can feel the prayers of my loved ones. I can see “good soil” all around me, and know that the truth being planted will bear fruit, that it will not return void.
Women in Ghana are learning the power of bringing their struggles into the light. In a community where open conversations are rare, Daddy’s Girls meetings create a much needed space where wonderings can be voiced and truth can be spoken.
Thank you for lifting me up in prayer, thank you for coating my ministry in prayer.
We only get little glimpses of all He is doing, but even from my limited vantage point I can say with confidence that He is very much alive and very much at work.
Love you all!
To our surprise, our host had event fliers created and posted around town.
It was quite an experience!
