Earlier this morning, I sat in a State Farm office and overheard a conversation between one of the employees and his boss.
The boss asked how his weekend had been. He responded that church had been great. It became clear throughout the conversation that the employee was in a struggling marriage. He needed to take his lunch break early due to a family-related appointment. As they continued talking, the employee began to share that the only reason he could forgive his wife, the reason he could extend grace was because of Jesus. His boss smiled, seemingly asking the employee to give the real reason for his changed heart. “Seriously, there is no way I would be able to do this” is all the employee would say.
Later I got a chance to mention that I was encouraged by his boldness. His response was, “God has changed me.”
“Amen, me too.”
Many church communities around the city have recently been meditating on what it looks like to be Spirit filled. John 3:8 says, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes.” God is blowing His Spirit on the city of Miami, He is changing people’s hearts and they are uncompromisingly shining. In the same way that “awe came upon every soul” in the early days of our church family, awe is coming upon the city of Miami.
“And now, Lord…grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Acts 4:29-30
