Let your feet roam the dusty, parched earth of our world and
it won’t be long before you encounter poverty – shanties, garbage heaps, brothels,
etc. Wander through the concrete laden streets of urban life and find poverty
down alleys, under overpasses, and even in luxurious hotels and CEO business
suits.

Poverty isn’t just lacking money; it is living in lack physically,
spiritually, or emotionally.

In America a relatively small number of our population is undernourished. Instead, we have a vast
number of people living in spiritual and emotional poverty. We are a
nation rich with wealth, natural resources, freedom and yet we still wrestle
with an orphan mentality. Get and grab. Look out for your own. Have it your
way. We live above our means and become workaholics to pay for our image. We
lack the warmth of covenant community because we don’t have time to love
others, consumed instead with pleasing ourselves.

I have a theory about why we tend to skirt around those in
need, why we glance away from the person sleeping on the street or begging for
money, why the sick and dying make us uncomfortable. It’s because they are no
different than any one of us. We know that a couple of bad decisions, a
life-altering diagnosis, the loss of our job and
that person may be us. It’s unsettling. It’s easier to see someone as less
than, unworthy, unlovable.

My passion is to see people come to recognize the unfailing,
never ending, all encompassing love of God whether they are in the highest or
lowest reaches of society. America
is proof that you can have loads of physical resources but it doesn’t do away
with our lack.

Money helps solve physical problems but only the love of God  will truly save us from
our poverty.
The love of God far exceeds anything we lack .

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his
poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9

I do not speak eloquently but neither did Moses. On a good
day all I have is a heart of compassion, the love of Christ and a desire for
justice… a longing to see girls know an abortion isn’t their only option… a
hope for the ending of human trafficking once and for all… a dream to see fresh
water and food available to all… a knowledge that life is messy but that doesn’t
diminish God’s love.  We can have the least of anyone on earth in terms of physical things and be the richest person because of God’s love.

I don’t know why this crazy trip has tugged at my heart for
so long. I am an introvert who likes to have things in control and I do not
like rodents, insects or physical activity – all further proof that this
journey isn’t about me at all. What I do know is this is where I am called to
be at this season in life, giving up my comforts to share with others this love that surpasses all others.

For that to be a reality however I need $3,790 in my account
by next week. I have seen miraculous provision so far and continue
to expect to share a joyous story of provision with you. If you’ve considered
giving but haven’t yet, now is the time. I know it’s hard to believe but even $5
or $10 goes a long way!

time gift or monthly, click here.

For all those who so generously contributed thus far, thank
you simply doesn’t seem enough to say but thank you. You are in my prayers and
I hope to serve you and your family as well. If there is anything I can
specifically be praying about, please let me know.
