This is my fun, cool God story from this past week that just shows that a)God does want to speak to us to lead us  b)there are people that need encouraging and need to be shown God’s love everywhere c) you don’t have to be frightened of talking to strangers : )
Saturday we spent time in our teams praying before going out into Gainesville to do ministry. The directives were simple, pray and listen to God for where He wants you to go and what He wants you to do. An exercise in faith and putting action to the belief that God really does want to speak to His people.

As we prayed I kept getting a picture of a folded up newspaper on a table and I kept hearing the word “time”.  Honestly I just thought it was all in mind and apparently I was having withdrawal symptoms from lack of coffee and news, but I proposed it to the group nonetheless. Sammie said she was getting that there was a coffeehouse. After some discussion of what others were sensing we set out for Gainesville. We split up in the town square to walk around and pray.

Several minutes later Teri and Bekah came excitedly running around the corner. While they were walking around praying they stumbled upon The Daily News Diner… a new restaurant with folded up newspapers called “The Times” on every table next door to a cafe.  Shocked? Why yes I was. So Terri, Bekah and I sat down to eat even though technically we weren’t supposed to eat during our time out… what else are you going to do at a diner? The rest of the team didn’t sense that they were supposed to be there so they continued to walk around, pray and talk to other people in the square.

We discussed the “what now?” aspect since we knew this was the place. We were the only customers so that left the owners and we simply felt that we were there to encourage and pray over them and their business. Talking with Mike and Tara we found that they had only opened a couple of months ago and the word hasn’t really gotten out about their business yet. Saturday was the first weekend they were open and we were their first customers that day. They were a very sweet and fun couple and we enjoyed just getting to hear about them and their family. They let us pray with them and even joined us in the prayer. It’s was a fun time of just encouraging our new friends and enjoying some really good food in the process : )

So if you’re in the Gainesville area and you’re hungry, and especially if you love having a dose of the daily news while you eat or enjoy the option of having breakfast at any point in the day . . .  I highly recommend the Daily News Diner. They are open from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  during the week and they also do catering.
