This is going to be a little bit of a convoluted post, but it’s for Valentine’s Day, so I feel like it fits right in.
Every year around this time (and much, MUCH earlier) we start to see lots of pink, purple and red. There’s ads for jewelry that nobody needs, flowers triple in price and for some reason, naked babies with bows and arrows start to appear. The same Facebook posts start to circulate yet again trying to explain how this “holiday” came to be. There also starts to be an enormous amounts of hearts.

The first thing I want to get out is my conspiracy theory. Personally, as for the origins of Valentine’s Day, I doubt it has it’s origins in some Roman mating day. What makes sense to me is that a woman with a sister started a fake holiday to spite her sister and make her feel bad about being single. My guess is that it caught on and became over the years it became the monster it is today. Thankfully, I have a sister who loves me and would never, ever be that spiteful.
Second, Valentine’s Day brings a ridiculous amount of hearts with it. Hearts bring with them murderous whispers. Not that their MY murderous thoughts, but I start to hear “OFF WITH HIS HEAD!” running through my head. The Queen of Hearts is one of my most favorite characters in all of literature. She’s powerful, but not in the BA way that you would want her to be. She’s clearly crazy, evil and cruel, but she’s not smart.
Anyone who doesn’t do what she wants, spoken or not, and off with their head. She’s one of my favorites because she’s so laughable. If I was the head of her Suit of Hearts army, I would never execute anyone. I would drag him away, keep him hidden for a couple of days and them put him back to work after the Queen had forgotten about it.
Anyway, I hope if you have a great Valentine’s Day whether or not you’re in a relationship:)
