“The best preparation for good work tomorrow is to do good work today!”

Preparing for this 11 month adventure has been quite the task!  From clothing to camping gear, and from toothpaste to first aid, the list of ‘what to bring’ was quite extensive as you can image for such an extended trip.  Not to mention, I am bringing everything in 1 big backpack, plus a day pack!

Practicing putting up my tent!

11 months in 1 backpack!!

It finally all fits!! Don’t be deceived.  Inside there is a tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, compressible pillow, towel, washcloth, vitamins, essential oils, three pairs of shoes, contacts for months and months, all personal care items and clothes for at least 20 alternating outfits!

Preparation didn’t consists of packing essentials alone. Fundraising was a big part of my preparation for this trip.  I cannot even begin to express how thankful I am to all of those who have supported and are still supporting me for my year-long missions trip! Fundraising for this large amount was easier than I could have ever imagined!  I am only a couple thousands dollars away from being fully funded for the entire year!  God has been so faithful.

Everything from fundraising letters, postcards, Facebook campaigns, phone calls, personal conversations, and even a yoga fundraiser all contributed greatly to my fundraising goals. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Yoga Fundraiser! *Yoga class taught by my yoga instructor friend.  All proceeds went toward my trip!

What has helped me prepare the most has been to get myself emotionally, mentally, and spiritually ready. This trip is not for the ‘faint of heart’.  I knew that when I signed up for it.   I was able to start this preparation when I ended my job in early November.  Even though I liked my job because it was challenging, you don’t realize the pent up stress that accumulates in your body until you no longer have that stress. For the past month and a half I have been able to go on vacation, read, hang with family and friends, catch up on sleep, shop, and spend lots of personal time with my Father.

Family is the best medicine one could ask for!

Stay tuned, more to come! 🙂
