Hello all!
I wanted to send a quick update on where I am, how I am and what I’m doing. I am with team ‘Meraki’ in Kampong Speu, Cambodia! We are living and working at a Christian English school called Home of Faith, Hope, and Love. The school was started by a Christian Cambodian couple whose hearts are to see all of Cambodia come to Christ. They started this school in a small village, where English is not very prevalent. The Cambodian government recently made a law requiring every school to teach English once a week. Now practicing English once a week isn’t a very great way to actually learn English. Our hosts see the huge value to the Cambodian students for their future if they learn English efficiently. Their goal is to teach and train the children not only in English but also in God’s love.
The team has been doing a fabulous job teaching, tutoring, and displaying God’s love and peace to the little children of Cambodia. There are three different shifts of students every day. The team has been able work the long hours each day and also maintaining a fun and positive atmosphere and attitude.
We also have the opportunity to lead worship and devotion for the entire staff every night after school. This is a great opportunity for us to encourage and uplift the staff here who work so hard every day all year long. Since many of the staff are new Christians, it is also an opportunity for us to impart unto the staff Biblical truths and knowledge that the Lord has laid on our heart for them.
Prayer Requests:
- Staying healthy: Many people on this team and the squad as a whole have been fighting sickness since arriving to Cambodia, including myself. We have also had accidents that have injured people leaving hurt backs, ankles, and achilles. One of our teams already suffering from injury was in a tractor accident just the other day. Please pray for safety and protection for our physical bodies as well as spiritual.
- Fundraising: Many people on the squad are still in full force with their fundraising. Please pray that God guides them in what they need to do to raise funds and generous hearts for those who are called to give.
- Home of Hope, Faith, and Love: Please pray that they find more long term teachers for their school. The organization is in the process of building more classrooms and are in need of more funds to do so. They also are in need of new school curriculum.
