I love how the kids jumped in to help me set up my tent after we first arrived.

I love Portuguese lessons with Silvester and Josepha, complete with my rough drawings in the dirt and entertaining all the kids with a complete inability to roll my ‘R’s.

I love night time well-showers under the stars.

(of whom he has never even heard) when he thinks no one is watching.

I love climbing the tree with the boys, then having them help when I can’t find my way down.

I love playing bare-foot volleyball with the translators, Elijah and Antonio.

I love making ‘friendship bracelets’ from trash and watching the surprise and joy on
Josepha’s face when I return to the orphanage two days later still sporting mine.

I love sitting outside in the dark while the kids’ dinner is prepared and having
Helena try to teach me the words to the songs they are singing.

I love eating caterpillars that the children have
caught, killed and cooked before my eyes.

I love teaching Felizberto and Isaac the Macarena.

I love playing the ‘name-game’ and watching Casilda (with her tongue out)
smile from ear to ear every time I say her name and pass her the ball.

I love having Admira and Judita attempt to teach me dances.  Talk about a picture of patience!

I love Silvestre’s GIANT SMILE, and the fact that he
can’t even hide it, even when he tries.

I love night swimming in the Indian Ocean surrounded by phosphorescent algae.
