We have been back in Phnom Penh for a week and a half and I am sure you would like to know how things are going. It has been an amazing 10 days! I was able to attend school with Leap and see him playing and communicating with other Deaf children. Also, we have had the privilege of taking him out, along with some of the workers from the orphanage for bumper cars, pizza and ice cream a few evenings. It has been a lot of fun to spend more time with him and all of the other children at the orphanage.

God has been really faithful to bless the time I have had here. I have spent some time at the Deaf Development Program (DDP) here in the Cambodia. It is a Christian organization that provides education and job training for Deaf adults in the city and surrounding provinces. This is a much-needed service since to date there has never been a Deaf person to graduate high school in this country. The only opportunity to receive an education came with the opening of the first Deaf school in 1998. It began with first grade and with the addition of one level per year, 2009 will see the first graduating class.

I have attended some beginner’s classes for Cambodian Sign Language. I spoke with the director of the DDP regarding Leap and his needs. He is at work to find a Deaf Christian adult who can invest some time with him. He is also working towards sending a teacher to the orphanage to teach the other children Sign Language. The director of Happy Tree is open to these possibilities and expecting to hear from him.

I am so excited that the Lord has orchestrated all of these services. I love knowing that when we leave in two days there is a lasting connection here for Leap.
Thank you so much for your prayers and please continue to pray for Leap as these things are falling into place. I have asked to be kept up to date on the progress and will let you know how things are moving along.
