If you’re a parent (not me), teacher (not me), or anyone in the child care
field (again, not me) who works with/is around little kiddies, and you’ve claimed to love all
your children equally, STOP LYING or deceiving yourselves! Before you get defensive, I’m not accusing anyone of not loving the
children. But c’mon, we all have
favorites.. you’d be surprised how quickly you’re drawn to one or two kids in
particular (or several, if your heart’s big enough). That’s what happened to me the first time I
met Big Heads 1 and 2, to whom this blog is dedicated. (No, I don’t mean Natalie Smith, fellow H Squadmate, who’s the original Big Head on Tikvah) These twin African boys have captured my
heart and I only have eyes for them! I
know, it’s not right or fair, but it is what it is. That’s why we aren’t Jesus… He loves all the little children of the world and all are precious in His sight…but I love these boys above all others (altho some
of the other kiddies are darn cute as well and easy to love).

I first laid eyes on Big Heads playing at the feeding
center, although they usually are picked up before the feeding center passes
out food.. but they attend the preschool so I’ve gotten plenty of Big Head time. (sidenote: Our team loves to nickname the
kids, since it’s fun and easy, making certain kids easier to remember. ) It was love at first sight when I noticed their
abnormally large heads and adorable faces and their fun yet peaceful nature – no dramatics, manipulation or brattiness. They’re
always dressed in matching fashionably preppy clothes: striped t-shirts,
curdoroys, zip up hoodies, cool lookin sneaks and tan beanies (aka winter hats
to those in Md). Like most twins, Big
Heads don’t look or act the same. The
one I’ve affectionately dubbed Big Head 1 looks more suave than his brother and
is definitely more extroverted. He plays
more with the other kids and greets me with a wave, a grin (I love how his eyes
crinkle and he shows his pearly white teeth) and open arms. Big Head 2 has the face of a grumpy old man
when he isn’t smiling, but he’s sweet and quiet. He keeps to himself more and seems to suffer
food coma, as he starts nodding off shortly after they’re fed at the
preschool. Our other theory is that his
head is just big, so he gets tired holding it up, hehe . But they’re both obsessed with playing with
bricks at the school yard. And I am obsessed with them! I can’t stop snappin their pics,
spotting them among the crowd of other kids or bothering them – yep, I am
probably – no, DEFINITELY – more of a nuisance to them than vice versa.. (seems
to be the case whenever I have an obsession, like with my sister’s dog at home. Aww!). I love any excuse to pick them up (like when Big Head 1 got knocked over
by other kids trying to catch bubbles and started to cry.. I was on him like
butter on bread), touch them (as in stroking their smooth brown cheeks, calm yourself) or play with
them. Being around them, thinking of
them and looking at pictures of them makes me happy, and I’m not even that
great with kids, so it says a lot.

Yesterday was our 2nd time volunteering at the preschool,
and the main joy I got from getting roused outta bed at 8 am was in knowing I’d
see the boys. It was a significant day
because I learned their real names (not nearly as fun as their nicknames so I
won’t reveal them) and their birthday (August babies)!

God bless whoever the lucky parents/owners are of these two,
who are altogether wonderful, lovely, freakin addicting, playful, well-behaved.. If you guys already heard of my attempts to
put Haitian orphan Kenly in a backpack, my team has already encouraged me by telling
me both twins will fit into my big pack… hmm… adoption, baby-sitting,
kidnapping.. same same, right? Gotta
refrain me from my urges.. I wanna STEAL EM!

PS. I will at some point include pictures of the other
kiddies like Cheeks, Dimps (short for Dimples), and my teammates’ favorites.

Some more pics cuz you can’t get enough!  Their heads don’t look disproportionate cuz of the beanies coverin them.
