I like talking bout myself as much as I like writing self-goals and self-reviews, but ok fine..

I’m Stephanie, a 26 year old ABC (American born Chinese) from Washington DC
(technically, Gaithersburg, MD but I say DC in case people aren’t familiar with the state of MD – it happens).  I’ve lived in MD all my life, the 2nd of 4 kids in a loving and outgoing family of six… so I’ve had the joy of being both the
annoying, bratty sibling and the one responsible for annoying,
bratty siblings.  =P  I was raised in and still attend the same Chinese family church, CBCM.  I have my parents to thank for
instilling in me a passion to travel and appreciate the world as God’s creation.  We’ve traversed nearly every
national park and across all states reachable by van.  One of my fondest
vacations was driving to Alaska – I picked the destination and my dad made it happen.  Truly one of the best ways to both bond with and wanna kill each other.  If there was a road to China, we would
drive it!

After graduating from the University of MD in 2004, I’ve been
an accountant for 3 years.  My friends and I started a ministry in 2003 called Hearts for DC, where we pass out food, toiletries, and clothes to the homeless in the nation’s capital, but more importantly, we really spend time talking to and prayin with them.  We’ve been encouraged when they recognize us and eagerly await our visits.  This service and regular street ministry has opened my eyes to the needy & the poor, and how much they are loved by God and should be loved by those of us more fortunate.  I’m proud of the fact that H4DC is still going strong after 5 years!  Praise God for the commitment of regular leaders, the curiosity and interest from newcomers, and the financial support of my church.  In 2006, I got my first taste of overseas missions by teaching English at a
summer camp in China.  It was awesome, especially bonding with the
incredible kids and witnessing our influence on them.

I’m still trying to figure out what I’m doing with my life, but I’m
excited for the journey that God has in store.  One of my favorite quotes is, “Who is the happier man, he who has
braved the storm of life and lived, or he who has stayed securely on
shore and merely existed?”  It’s time to start braving the storm
and living the life God wants me to live.  There’s so much of God’s world that I’m dying to see before I leave it.  I feel the need to be bolder for Christ, and I’ve always had a desire to venture into the darker places of the world..  I’m excited to take on the World Race and encounter amazing people, sights, experiences and stretches of faith.

A few random things:
  • I’m short and I’ve played the piano and violin.  I can’t use chopsticks and suck at math.  So that makes me your typical
    and atypical Asian American.
  • I’m sarcastic and enjoy sarcasm immensely.
  • Will eat anything and
everything – bugs included – and will accept $ for challenges (can’t handle spicy stuff tho)
  • Have a tendency to memorize license plates
(not exactly America’s Got Talent, I know)
  • LOVE to take pictures altho I wouldn’t consider myself a true photographer (never taken a class, just trigger happy) – but being labelled Asian Papparazzi by friends and relatives is good enough for me.  If I don’t take a picture, it didn’t happen.
  • Hate needles/shots/vaccinations but love watching Discovery Health shows w/ traumatic surgeries and such (wanted to be a surgeon but settled for business…)
  • Love outdoor stuff – swimming, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing..
  • Terrible at directions (GPS is a savior), it’s possible to get lost going home.
  • Love movies, reality tv, good books and fluff magazines (including men’s mags like GQ and Esquire).
  • In love with my niece, Casey.. ok she’s a beagle but still.. I could smell her and hug her and kiss her and smother her all day… perhaps that’s the reason why my sister had to move.  Miss her tho!
