Today our team had a pretty easy day. We were supposed to be painting all week, but got done but Wednesday afternoon. Since we had nothing to do, we were going to go the local orphanage that some teams are already helping with. However, our team leader got sick, so while he rested most of us went out for some good ol’ Domino’s Pizza. We were going to do a lunch/bible study/team time but it ended up being much more of a blessing…
We were eating and talking about our awesome worship service from last night, just enjoying our wonderful, American goodness. We soon changed the subject and began talking about spiritual warfare. Jake started teaching us the theology about all that while drawing pictures, and my mind started to wander. While he was talking, I looked down at our leftover pizza and thought that maybe we should give it to someone hungry in town before throwing it away. But the bad thing is, I was a little worried about giving it to one person
, because then lots of homeless people would want some, so I wasn’t sure how to handle that. But I just really felt like God wanted me to do that. By the time Jake was done talking, all the pizza was gone. I told my team that I thought God was telling me to buy a personal pan pizza and give it to someone in need. They were like “yea, sure, go for it”. I had no idea what I was doing or who to give it to, but I wanted to follow through anyway. After I ordered it, we saw two little boys just hanging around the outside of Domino’s just watching us and some other table of people eat. We decided to invite them into the restaurant to feed them if we could.
Micah and I went outside to talk to them when we realized that we already knew them from a few weeks ago! Their names are Orlando and Edwin. Jake shared his ice cream with them then because they looked hungry. They don’t go to school and they said their mom was at work, so we invited them in to sit with us. Immediately, the store manager saw them come in and said they can’t be in here because he thought they came in to beg. Once we assured him that they were with us, he left us alone.
We tried communicating with the boys through broken Spanish and their shyness. We also asked if they knew who Dios (God) was, and they said yes, so we told them that He loves them. I ended up just smiling like a big cheese ball most of the time as Micah talked to them because she knew the most Spanish.
Their food finally came and I thought I ordered just one personal pan for the random person God was going to show us, but it was 2 for 1 special today, and they each got their own!! Ah! Thank you God! Once they started eating, they were smiling and eating their pizza backwards, and it was SO precious! Then I got into “momma mode” and got them some coke too because I thought they’d be thirsty. We had such a nice time with them! Jake took them to wash their hands when they were finished. They left after that and we felt so good to feed those sweet babies! Thank you God for speaking to us so we can make a small difference in their lives today!
